The market for MEMS and silicon-based Microfluidics applications is expected to grow significantly over the coming years. However, the application ecosystem is highly fragmented, product differentiation involves the complex interplay of device design, process architecture, system integration, package and test. This imposes significant technical and commercial challenges for the industrialization of MEMS-based systems – going “from sampling to ramping”. A key pre-requisite for a foundry is the possibility to establish a scalable business model which is thightly connected to standardization of the technology portfolio and manufacturing process.
